There are over 2.8 million orphans in South Africa! This includes children without a living biological mother, father or without both parents, this is equivalent to 14% of all children in South Africa. Adopt Aware SA advocates and raises awareness for the hopeful children placed in foster care within the Vaal area waiting to find their forever families.

If you are looking to adopt a child in South Africa, you must approach an adoption agency which will screen you and help you look for a child who is available for adoption. You can only apply for national adoption if you are a South African citizen residing in South Africa and you want to adopt a South African child.

If you want to look after a child who is in need of care and protection, apply to the Department of Social Development or an accredited child protection organisation for permission to foster the child. Foster care is the temporary placement of a child who is in need of care and protection. The child is placed in the care of a suitable person.

Children in the foster care system need to know they are supported and cared for, and while you may not be in a position to adopt, you can still make a huge difference in their lives. That’s why bringing community members together with kids makes an unbelievable impact. It’s a way to show them that someone believes in their future.

When you donate money to charity, you create opportunities to meet new people who believe in the same causes that inspire you. That, and making a real impact on those causes, can infuse your everyday life with more meaning.
